Dutch industry produced 12.0 per cent more in August than a year earlier. This is reported by CBS on 9 October. It is the largest increase in more than four years, and output reached its highest level ever. The machinery industry in particular stands out: it produced 45.1 per cent more than in August last year.

Output also rose compared with July, by 3.3 per cent. More than 60 per cent of industry classes grew. The figures per sector, compared with August 2025:

Producer confidence rose from 3.7 to 4.2 in September. Only in the electrotechnical and machinery industry did confidence fall slightly, but at 11.3 it remained the most positive sector of all.
What does this mean for machine builders?
More output in the machinery industry means more machines that have to be built, tested and delivered. Almost every machine with moving axes contains cable carriers, cables and cable entries. These are not big items on the bill of materials, but if they are missing or do not fit, delivery comes to a standstill.
Three things help when order books are full:
- Choose the cable carrier early in the design. A carrier that is only chosen at the end has to fit in the space that is left. And for the machines already in place?
The repair and installation of machinery sector also grew, by 4.7 per cent. Machines that run harder and longer make more strokes. Cable carriers and the cables inside them wear gradually with every stroke. That is not a problem as long as you see it in time, but a broken link or a damaged cable in the middle of a busy period costs production.
