Dutch industry again grew strongly in October. The Nevi Purchasing Managers' Index came in at 55.0, after 55.6 in September. A reading above 50 means growth. According to Nevi, production even rose by one of the largest increases in more than four and a half years. That was reported by Nieuws.nl, based on ANP, and LINK magazine on 2 November.
Growth with a downside
According to LINK, problems in the supply chain are increasing at the same time. Average delivery times rose noticeably in October, the sharpest deterioration in three months. Purchasing managers cite material shortages, low river water levels and disruption from the conflict in the Middle East. ABN AMRO points out that delivery times have now lengthened for the seventeenth month in a row.
Companies are responding by buying more and building larger buffer stocks. Purchasing rose for the eighth month in a row and stocks of purchased materials increased sharply. Input prices and selling prices also rose at the fastest rate in three months, due to higher costs for raw materials, energy, wages, fuel and transport. We wrote about the previous month in Nevi index: production highest since 2022.
What does this mean for your cable carriers and cables?
A machine that runs harder makes more strokes per day. The cable carrier, the cables inside it and the dress pack on the robot wear faster as a result. If a part then breaks while delivery times in the chain are rising, a line stands still longer than necessary. Three points to look at now:
- Know what is in your machines. Record for each machine the series and type of the cable carrier and the article numbers of cables and hoses. If you do not know the type, use the Replacement guide to find a suitable replacement by inner dimensions.
- Keep critical parts ready. Think of loose links, end connectors and a cable cut to length for the machine that runs the most. Request loose parts via parts.
- Check before the standstill. More noise, sagging or chafe marks on the cables announce wear. In the Carrier check you go through these points in a few minutes.
