Cable carriers for Torsit overhead cranes

Torsit builds and supplies overhead cranes for industrial halls. On a crane like this, the trolley with the hoist travels back and forth along the main girder. All power and control for the trolley has to follow that movement across the full span, with every lift.

With an overhead crane, a few things matter. The carrier has to run straight and steadily over a long length, without sagging or swaying. It has to fit compactly on the girder, so the trolley and hoist can pass freely. And the crane has to run reliably for years with as little maintenance as possible, because a crane at a standstill holds up the whole hall.

We started with engineering: the travel of the trolley along the girder, the speed and the cable package that needs to move with it. Based on that, we chose plastic cable carriers from Tsubaki Kabelschlepp: light, quiet and well suited to the long, even movements of an overhead crane.

The carrier runs in a guide channel mounted on supports along the main girder. This keeps it straight along its full length, lets the upper run glide neatly over the lower run and keeps the space around the trolley clear. Every cable has its own place in the carrier, with a bending radius suited to the cable package.

Wisman Techniek handled the engineering and supplied the carriers with the channel, ready for installation on the crane.

The Torsit overhead crane runs with a cable carrier precisely matched to the girder and the trolley. The cables move smoothly and protected across the full span, and the crane can run for years without the cable guidance needing attention.
