In ten weeks, on 20 January 2027, the European Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 replaces the Machinery Directive. The Dutch implementation is now in place: the Commodities Act Decree on Machinery 2026 (Warenwetbesluit machines 2026) has been published in Staatsblad 2026, 261, Arboportaal reported. The decree governs enforcement in the Netherlands and the designation of conformity assessment bodies. These can be designated by the Netherlands Labour Authority since 17 September 2026.
Standard for protection against corruption arrives at the last moment
New in the Machinery Regulation is that safety functions must be protected against corruption, whether deliberate or accidental. The standard that provides the technical details, EN 50742 "Safety of machinery – Protection against corruption", was formally approved on 9 October. Publication is scheduled for 19 November 2026, according to the standards catalogue of iTeh Standards.
This leaves less than two months between the standard and the date on which the regulation applies. Based on statements by Pilz, IndustrieVandaag wrote that manufacturers completing their conformity assessment this autumn may be working with a standard that is not yet formally available. According to Pilz, many manufacturers can already cover part of it now: separating the safety circuit from the automation, using passwords and recording changes.
What else is changing?
According to Arboportaal, documentation such as the instruction manual may now be supplied digitally, for example via a QR code. Importers and distributors get new obligations, and software, cybersecurity and AI are explicitly included in the safety design. A physical crane logbook or lifting equipment logbook on site is no longer mandatory from 20 January; a reference to a freely accessible digital version is sufficient. IndustrieVandaag also reports that documentation such as manuals and declarations of conformity must remain available for at least ten years.
Which requirements apply to your machine exactly can be found in the regulation itself or discussed with a conformity expert. Wisman Techniek does not give legal advice on this.
What does this mean for the cables and cable carriers in your machine?
Wisman does not supply control systems or software. But a machine file that must remain complete for ten years also covers the mechanical components. Anyone who has to replace a cable carrier or cable in a few years' time wants to know exactly what is in the machine. Three points to include in your file now:
- Record the components per machine. Series, type, inner dimensions and length of the cable carrier, and the article numbers of the cables in it. You can find datasheets and CAD files under downloads; you create a dimensional drawing in the Cable carrier CAD.
- Keep your orders in one place. In My Wisman your orders, delivery notes and documents are kept together, so you can later find out what was delivered.
- Use the transition for a check. If you are going through your files anyway, you can check straight away whether the cable carriers and dress packs are still in good condition. With the Carrier check you do this in a few minutes, or we do it for you as part of maintenance and inspection.
Are you a machine builder and would you like to receive the cable carrier and cables for a new machine complete and documented? Put it together in the Cable carrier configurator. You get a specification and parts list with article numbers, which a Wisman specialist checks free of charge.
