Repair, overhaul or replace?
Repair pays off when the damage is local, the cables are in order and the cause has been removed. A few broken links after a collision, a torn-off end connector or one damaged cable: you fix that without replacing the whole carrier.
Replacement is better with wear over the full length, brittle or discoloured material, damage that returns after repair or a carrier that was chosen wrongly at the time. Then we look for a replacement with at least the same inner dimensions, a radius that is not tighter and outer dimensions that fit in the same place.
An overhaul sits in between. For large or hard-to-replace carriers, such as the stainless steel cable carrier of the Maeslantkering, we dismantle the carrier completely, inspect every part, clean it and renew what is worn. That way the existing carrier lasts again, without the intervention of a complete new build.
