Optimal cable protection for a machine installation at Tata Steel in IJmuiden
At a machine installation of Tata Steel in IJmuiden, cables and hoses were repeatedly getting damaged. We analysed the situation on site and installed a plastic cable carrier with strain-relieved, neatly arranged cables.

01 · Challenge
Challenge
At the Tata Steel site in IJmuiden, technicians were struggling with a recurring problem on a specific machine installation. Due to the harsh conditions and the lack of adequate cable protection, the cables and hoses were regularly damaged. In the steel industry, factors such as dust, heat and mechanical stress are part of daily life. Without a good guidance system, the cables chafed against the structure, leading to unexpected failures and high costs for emergency repairs. The request to us was simple: provide a solution that protects these vulnerable lines and increases the reliability of the installation.

Our experienced maintenance department went on site straight away to carry out a thorough analysis. On projects like this, we look not only at the cable carrier itself, but at the entire dynamics of the machine. As exclusive partner of Tsubaki Kabelschlepp, we have access to a wide range of solutions developed specifically for harsh environments like this.
We chose a configuration with high-quality plastic cable carriers. Although steel is often the first thought in the steel industry, modern plastic energy chains offer enormous advantages: they are corrosion-resistant, lighter and require less maintenance. During engineering, we took the bending radii of the existing hoses into account to prevent kinking. Our fitters then carried out the installation expertly, placing the cables in the carrier with strain relief and in a clear arrangement.

Switching to a professional cable management system has made a world of difference for Tata Steel. The cables and hoses are now safely stowed in the cable carrier, so external influences and mechanical wear no longer get a grip on the conductors. This contributes directly to optimisation in the steel and heavy industry, where continuity is crucial.
Since handover, the risk of cable breakage has been kept to a minimum. This means less unplanned downtime and considerable savings in the long term. Curious how we can improve your machinery? Contact one of our specialists for honest, tailored advice.
