Carrier running out of the trough? Then the guiding is not right.
With long travel lengths the upper part of the carrier glides over the lower part in a guide channel. If it runs out, climbs up or starts to run at an angle, the combination of carrier, channel and installation is not right.

Is the carrier running out of the channel while the machine is running? Stop the machine: a carrier that runs over itself usually breaks within a short time.
Symptoms
Do you recognise this?
- Carrier jumps out of the trough or climbs up the wall
- Upper part falls beside the lower part
- Carrier runs at an angle or twists about its axis
- Wear marks on the trough walls
You can check this yourself
- Is the channel straight and do the joints fit well?
- Is the driver centred above the channel?
- Does the outer width of the carrier match the inner width of the channel?
- Does it always happen at the same place along the travel length?
Causes
What it is usually down to
Often several causes play a role at once. We look at the carrier, the installation and the movement together.
Let us take a look Do you already know which part is broken? Request it straight away01Channel too wide or too narrow
The channel must match the outer width of the carrier. Too much room lets it sway, too little makes it jam.
02Driver not aligned
If the driver is not centred above the channel or is at the wrong height, it pulls the carrier sideways.
03Channel not straight or not continuous
Seams, height differences and a channel that is not straight make the carrier snag.
04Wrong carrier for gliding
Not every series is made to glide on its own. For long travel lengths, series with glide shoes or a suitable profile are needed.
Step by step
Fix it yourself
Have a fitter in house and want to do it yourself? This is the order we follow too.
- Level
- Medium
What you need
- Spirit level or straight edge
- Tape measure
- Tool for fitting the driver
Safety first. Only work on a machine that is stationary, de-energised and locked out against switching on. Secure axes that can move or drop. Follow your company's safety rules.
- (01)
Measuring the height of the driver
Measure the installation height at the driver and compare it with the series specification. A driver that is too high or too low pulls the carrier out of the channel.
- (02)
Check alignment
Lay a straight edge along the fixed point, channel and driver. Everything must be in one line.
- (03)
Check the channel
Are the trough sections firmly connected, without edges or seams where the carrier can catch?
- (04)
Adjust and test
Adjust the driver and let the machine make the full stroke slowly. Pay particular attention at the turning point.
When to stop
Is everything properly aligned and does it still run out? Then the carrier or the channel does not suit the travel length and the set-up needs to be reviewed.
Solution
Prefer to have it fixed? This is how we do it
Not just replacing, but making sure it does not happen again.
- 01Measure the channel and carrier
- We check the channel, carrier and driver against each other.
- 02Align and adjust
- The driver, channel and any slide rails are aligned and replaced where necessary.
- 03Suitable series for the travel length
- For long travel lengths we recommend a series and channel designed for it.
