Is a brush entry watertight?

No. A brush entry keeps dust out and keeps the opening neat, but offers no watertight seal or strain relief. For that you choose a frame, cable gland or entry plate.

What is the difference between Z and ZZ?

Z has one row of brushes, ZZ has two. The double brush gives better dust protection and a firmer mechanical seal.

Can cables with connectors go through a brush entry?

Yes. The brushes part for the connector and then close around the cable again.

Are there round brush entries?

Yes, the DESCLICK Z and DESPRED ZZ are round, split versions for metric holes.

Which brush seal fits a server rack?

The Icotek BES brush strips are made for 10 and 19-inch racks and are installed without tools.

Can I get a made-to-measure brush strip?

Yes. The Icotek KDR-BES-U is a brush strip with clamping profile supplied cut to length, for gland plates of common enclosures.

Brush seal

A brush seal consists of a frame with one or two rows of brushes. Cables are routed through it and can easily be added or removed later, without dismantling anything.

With a double brush (ZZ), dust protection is better and the mechanical seal firmer than with a single row (Z). There are rectangular frames for a cut-out and round, split versions for metric holes. The material is halogen-free.

From Icotek we supply the KEL-BES brush plates for connector cut-outs, the split KEL-BES-S (also round for M32 and M50), made-to-measure brush strips with clamping profile (KDR-BES-U) and BES strips for 10 and 19-inch server racks.

When do you choose a brush seal?

01Indoors, dry environment: No requirement for watertightness or IP rating, but for a neat, dust-resistant opening.
02Cables are changed often: Add or remove cables without dismantling: push through and done.
03Connectors of varying size: The brushes close around almost any shape, even large plugs.
04Cable trays and server cabinets: Finishing of entries in floor, trough or cabinet wall.
