Encoders, fieldbus, Ethernet and cameras send their signals through the cable carrier. More than bending counts there: the paired construction, the shielding and the limits for travel and cycles differ widely per cable.

In TRAXLINE you find three groups: data cables for measurement and feedback signals, bus and network cables for fieldbus, Ethernet, USB and coax, and a fibre-optic cable for optical data.
Most data cables have twisted pairs (TPi) and are single or double shielded. That keeps interference out, even right next to power cables. Class 400 has a PVC jacket, class 700 PUR and class 1000 TPE.
For bus and network cables the limits differ per protocol. In the data the travel distance ranges from 5 m (USB S and USB 3.0) to 200 m (CAN bus, INTERBUS and CAT.6), and coax is specified up to 2 million cycles. So check per series, not just the class.
Fibre optics (FOC 700) are immune to electromagnetic interference and specified up to 500 m travel. A choice when you need to send data over a long distance or next to heavy power cables.

Choose
What to look out for with data and bus
01Protocol first
PROFIBUS, PROFINET, CAN bus, INTERBUS, USB, CAT.5e, CAT.6 or coax: choose the cable to suit the protocol, not the other way round.
02Travel per series
The limits differ per protocol. A USB cable cannot cover a long travel distance; see the table below.
03Next to power: double shielded
If the data cable lies next to motor cables, choose a double-shielded version and a separator in between.
04Connecting the shield
Earthed over the full circumference, as close to the cabinet as possible. No thin wire to earth.
05Fibre optics for distance and interference
Optical is immune to interference; FOC 700 goes up to 500 m travel.
