Robot cable for arm and linear axis
Torsion on the arm.Bending on the axis.
A robot needs two kinds of cable. Around the wrist the cable twists around its own axis; on the linear axis or gantry it bends back and forth in a cable carrier. Choose one cable for both and it breaks where the load does not fit.

A robot cable is not a single product, but a cable that suits the movement at that point of the robot. On the arm the cable twists and bends at the same time, in three dimensions. On a linear axis, a seventh axis or a gantry it moves back and forth in one plane, in a cable carrier.
Torsion is a different load than bending. A cable that bends well millions of times in a cable carrier is not therefore suitable for twisting around its own axis. The TRAXLINE cables in our range are specified for bending in the cable carrier: per series the data gives the number of movement cycles and the travel distance, no torsion values.
For the arm we therefore supply a Reiku dress pack: a protective hose with holders and a retraction system, with torsion-resistant cables that we make to length. For the axis below or above the robot you choose a TRAXLINE cable in a cable carrier, by travel, cycles and shielding.
If the robot stands on a linear axis and the cable package continues to the arm, you have two systems in series. Watch the transition point: secure the cables there with strain relief, so the rotation of the arm does not carry on into the cable carrier.

Shielded PUR series from class 700 for control, power, data, network and hybrid. Whether they fit depends on travel distance and cycles; the cable finder filters on both.

Choose
What to look out for with a robot cable
01Where is the movement?
Arm and wrist: torsion and movement in three dimensions. Axis or gantry: bending in one plane. Choose a different solution for each part of the package.
02Torsion with a pivot point
On the wrist a ball joint absorbs the rotation. Without that point the bundle twists itself to pieces.
03Shielding
Servo and encoder cables to the robot are shielded. Separate power and signal in the cable carrier with a separator.
04Sheath
With oil, coolant or heavy wear, choose a PUR or TPE jacket instead of PVC.
05Transition from axis to arm
Secure the cables at the point where the cable carrier ends and the dress pack begins.
06Package length
A package that is too short pulls, one that is too long whips. A retraction system keeps the length on the arm right.
